The New Orleans Jazz Fest began in 1970 and is considered a premier event in music with bands and artists coming from all over to play for 2 week ends in spring. The first year only a few hundred people attended to hear Duke Ellington, Mahalia Jackson, Pete Fountain, Al Hirt, Clifton Chenier, Fats Domino, The Meters, The Preservation Hall Band, and several local groups. But about a thousand claim to have been there now. Today thousands more flock to New Orleans the last week end in April and first weekend in May to attend Jazz Fest. Initially local artists and musicians were featured and helped by the exposure to thousands of people but now the Fest is big business with national markets sponsoring things and big guys selling art posters. The little guy gets lost in the game.
Well another year another Jazz Fest will begin and as always said the best one yet to come. Gather the clan and bolster the Krewe come visit us and why not help the little local artist and buy a poster or shirt from Fig Street Studio? Music designs, and more from Alligators to Zydeco, prints of paintings, comical shirts of crawfish or Voodoo can be purchased on the web. You can even have your names added on the web at the Fig Street Studio Zazzle store.
